The legendary Motown greats flock to San Jose this summer! Motown The Musical, the record-breaking stage musical that chronicles the life and struggles of Motown label founder Berry Gordy and his Motown family, joins Broadway San Jose’s exciting 2015-2016 season. Opening on June 21, 2016, Motown The Musical plays the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts for a week until June 26, 2016.
In Motown The Musical, go on a joyride through the glory days of the Motor City where a new record label takes the music world by storm and paves the city streets with certified gold records. Based on To Be Loved: the Music, the Magic, the Memories of Motown, Gordy’s 1994 autobiography, Motown The Musical is the fabled tale of Gordy and the whole Motown family as they created a genre that thrust black music to the mainstream and helped change racially-segregated America. Featuring over 50 of the greatest Motown hits, Motown The Musical is directed by Charles Randolph-Wright.
Experience non-stop music and spirited dance numbers as Motown The Musical takes the San Jose Center for the Performing Art’s center stage on June 21 to 23 (Tuesday to Thursday) at 7:30 PM, on June 24 (Friday) at 8 PM, on June 25 (Saturday) at 2 PM and 8 PM, and on June 26 (Sunday) at 1 PM and 6:30 PM. Motown The Musical runs for 2 hours and 40 minutes.
