The brave newsboys of New York are spending Christmas in Detroit! Newsies, the smash hit and acclaimed Disney musical based on the well loved Disney movie of the same name, is part of Broadway in Detroit’s blockbuster 2015-16 season. Opening on December 15, 2015, Newsies takes over the Detroit Opera House for sixteen performances until December 27, 2015.
They merely delivered the newspapers; that is, until they made it to the papers’ headlines. Inspired by a real event in 1899 dubbed as the Newsboy Strike in New York, Newsies tells a rousing tale of standing up for what is right. Homeless and orphaned, the newsboys only wanted to eke a living when they decide to take a stand against the unjust new policies of New York’s publishing titans. Winner for Best Score and Best Choreography in the 2012 Tony Awards, Newsies is the the high energy and electrifying explosion of dance and song that Detroit theatergoers should not miss!
Don’t miss the high spirited and exciting performances of Newsies at the Detroit Opera House at 8:00 PM on Tuesdays to Fridays, at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Saturdays, and at 1:00 PM and 6:30 PM on Sundays. The performance time of Newsies is 140 minutes with an intermission.
