The newsboys take the road from New York to Tempe this summer! Newsies, the acclaimed Disney musical inspired by the Disney movie of the same name, is part of Desert Schools Broadway Across America Arizona’s exciting 2015-2016 season. Opening on June 14, 2016, Newsies will be at the ASU Gammage for eight shows only until June 19, 2016.
Direct from the Great White Way, Newsies is all set to captivate its Tempe audience. Based on New York’s historical 1899 Newsboys Strike, Newsies follows a rag tag group of orphaned and homeless newsboys led by Jack. This band of underdogs stands up and takes a stand when the rich and powerful newspaper publishers increase newspaper prices. Fighting for what is right, the newsboys go on strike. Winner for Best Choreography and Best Score in the 2012 Tony Awards, Newsies is the spirited and electrifying explosion of dance and song that Tempe theatergoers would not want to miss!
Don’t miss the crowd pleasing and smash hit Newsies as it takes over the ASU Gammage stage on June 14 to17 (Tuesday to Friday) at 7:30 PM, on June 18 (Saturday) at 2 PM and 7:30 PM, and on June 19 (Sunday) at 1 PM and 6:30 PM. With an intermission of 15 minutes, the run time of Newsies is 2 hours and 20 minutes.
