Her name is Carole King and her story is beautiful. The captivating life of the iconic pop songwriter and performer is coming to Charlotte next Broadway season.
Beautiful – The Carole King Musical follows the story of the young Carole Klein, from her humble beginnings as a shy teenager in Brooklyn, to her flourishing career alongside husband and songwriting partner Gerry Goffin, all the way through her private life downfall. Her accomplishments are recognized worldwide and King soon becomes one of the top acts in pop music history. Best friends – composing couple Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann – are the songwriting team behind the timeless hits You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling, Somewhere Out There and Don’t Know Much. King eventually finds her true voice through her first solo album Tapestry, which later becomes the soundtrack of a generation.
The creative team for Beautiful – The Carole King Musical is composed by Tony Award nominee and Oscar nominated screenwriter Douglas McGrath, who wrote the book, and director Marc Bruni. The score features countless classics by the starring duo King/Goffin alongside Weil and Mann which include: You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman, You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling’, Take Good Care of my Baby, You’ve Got a Friend, So Far Away, It Might As Well Rain Until September, Up on the Roof and Locomotion.
Carole King has won 4 Grammy Awards, while her album Tapestry held the record for most weeks as Billboard’s Number 1 album by a female artist, for over 20 years.
