Soar high with the American dream this spring! 42nd Street, the quintessential and acclaimed backstage musical comedy classic, visits Tempe for Desert Schools Broadway Across America Arizona’s exciting 2015-2016 season. Opening on April 5, 2016, 42nd Street will be at the ASU Gammage for eight shows only until April 10, 2016.
An irresistible song and dance fable that has been captivating theatergoers for many years, 42nd Street is based on Bradford Rope’s novel and consequent 1933 film version by Busby Berkeley. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical Revival in 2001, it follows the tale of Peggy, a starry eyed and hopeful young dancer who leaves the comforts of his Allentown home to try her luck in New York and to audition for an upcoming musical on the Great White Way. When the lead star of the musical injures her ankle, Peggy finds herself taking over the role. With musical score by Al Dubin and Harry Warren and choreography by Randy Skinner, 42nd Street is directed by Mark Bramble.
Feel the lullaby of Broadway as 42nd Street takes center stage at the ASU Gammage on April 5 to 8 (Tuesday to Friday) at 7:30 PM, on April 9 (Saturday) at 2 PM and 7:30 PM, and on April 10 at 1 PM and 6:30 PM. The run time of 42nd Street is 2 hours and 40 minutes with an intermission.
