Act One New York | Vivian Beaumont Theatre

The life of writer, playwrite, and director, Moss Hart is brought to life on stage in Act One, based on his memoirs. This new production plays at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre.

From humble beginnings in the Bronx, Moss Hart was introduced to the world of theatre from a young age by his aunt. Act One, a play based on his autobiography, depicts his struggle to escape a life of poverty and find success in the world of the stage. His collaborations with George S. Kaufman among others, lead him to pen his first great success, Once in a Lifetime.

Witness how a destitute youth from the Outer Boroughs becomes a Pulitzer-prize winning playwright and one of Broadway’s royalty in Act One at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre for a limited run from March 20 through April 17, 2014. Sharing the lead role are Broadway alums Santino Fontana and Tony Shalhoub.
