Christie Brinkley Returns to ‘Chicago’ for 6-Show Boston Run
Christie Brinkley will bring her portrayal of Roxie Hart in the U.S. touring version of “Chicago” to Boston for a limited engagement starting tonight, November 1.
The six-show run will take place Boston’s Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre November 1-4. Brinkley first appeared as Hart in her Broadway stage debut in 2010, and later played the role in London’s West End version of the musical. She also appeared in San Diego and Los Angeles productions of the show. And though she has now been on with the production for quite some time, she tells the Boston Herald that she initially was nervous about her acting ability.
“During rehearsals, I kept waiting for someone to tell me, ‘It’s been a valiant effort, but we’re cutting you loose,’” Brinkley said. “But I made it through the Broadway run somehow. Then I was asked to do four weeks in London’s West End, then invited back to Broadway, now I’m on a national tour… It took awhile, but I now know I’m good at this.”
She also said she was surprised she was offered the part, though she had often dreamed of being on Broadway.
“I always used to (pretend I was in) Broadway shows when I was younger,” she continued. “I loved doing the girl’s voice, then the guy’s voice as I’d duet with myself. But when they offered me this part, I was really taken aback. I thought, ‘I must have got somebody else’s request.’”
Brinkley is perhaps best known as an actress as the “Girl in the Ferrari” in “National Lampoon’s Vacation.”
John O’Hurley will costar with Brinkley in the production as Billy Flynn. The actor also appeared in the Broadway revival of “Chicago,” and is known from many television and film appearances. Among his best known are as retailer J. Peterman on “Seinfeld” and as the host of “Family Feud.”
