Wicked Tampa | Carol Morsani Hall

Wicked Tampa | Carol Morsani Hall

Due to insistent public demand and after a previously sold-out and record-breaking run, Broadway smash hit and “cultural phenomenon” (Variety) ‘Wicked’ returns to Tampa for an extensive three-week run at the Straz Center in 2017. Fans of this highly acclaimed musical will definitely dance through life and defy gravity when this production enchants and captivates Tampa once more from February 1 to 26, 2017 at the Carol Morsani Hall.

‘Wicked’ tracks back to the colorful story of the Witches of Oz, from their younger years till they realized their destinies as the Good Witch of the North and the Wicked Witch of the West, and long before Dorothy alighted the train from Kansas and stepped into Munchkinland. Elphaba and Galinda grew up together but were stark contrasts of each other, and as such, were constantly subjected to comparisons. Galinda was more popular thanks to her luscious blonde hair and her amiable and sparkling personality, while Elphaba’s enigmatic, fiery and outspoken personality and emerald skin caused people to isolate her out of their society, shaping her eventual resentment and negative perspective about others and her life as a whole. Their rich and dynamic history and how it relates to the fascinating classic tale of the ‘Wizard of Oz’ give rise to “the most complete – and completely satisfying – new musical in a long time” (USA Today). The performance running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes with 1 intermission.

“The sum of its parts, Wicked enchants with great performances and a stellar production. The show’s score gives us music by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin) and book by Winnie Holzman. Their tunes bowl audiences over with shirt-ripping emotion — some inspirational, others with lyrics you’d swear you’d read in a Hallmark Card. ” – Julie Garisto of Creative Loafing Tampa Bay

“Everything about the production draws you into the fantasy that is “Wicked” including elaborate, creative sets featuring clock gears, a red-eyed, steam-snorting dragon and an Emerald City so bright they should have given the audience sunglasses as they walked in. The costumes are lush and the effects dazzling.” – Cloe Cabrera of The Tampa Tribune
