‘Wicked’ National Tour Welcomes Alison Luff, John Davidson

The first national tour of “Wicked” will be getting a small makeover later this month as Alison Luff and John Davidson join the cast.

Luff will take over as Elphaba on April 30, when the show will be in Dallas. She has previously been seen on Broadway as part of “Scandalous” and “Ghost: The Musical.” She also was part of both the Broadway and touring productions of “Mamma Mia!”

Davidson also will join the cast on April 30, and his Broadway credits include “Oklahoma,” “State Fair” and “Foxy.” Additionally, he’s been the host of numerous television game shows including “New Hollywood Squares,” “That’s Incredible!” “Time Machine” and “The $100,000 Pyramid.”

The two will join a cast that currently stars Jenn Gambatese as Glinda and Kim Zimmer as Madame Morrible. The tour currently is playing at the Tucson Music Hall in Tucson, Ariz. through April 7. Others currently in the company include Curt Hansen, Timothy Britten Parker, Kyle Brown, Adam Fleming, Philip Dean, Cassie Okenka and Brandon Rubendall, among others.

The Dallas engagement will run April 10-May 5 at the Music Hall at Fair Park.

The story of “Wicked” has become well-known since the show has long been a hit on Broadway, and serves as a prequel of sorts to “The Wizard of Oz.”

“‘Wicked’ is the untold story of the witches of Oz,” is how producers put it. “Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. ‘Wicked’ tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.”

The musical is based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.”
