‘Wicked,’ ‘Les Miserables’ Highlight Broadway Minneapolis 2013-14 Season

“Wicked” and “Les Miserables” will highlight the Broadway Minneapolis 2013-2014 season.

There will be 11 productions throughout the season, and most will be held at the Orpheum Theater. Other shows that will be staged are “Once,” “Peter and the Starcatcher,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Ghost The Musical,” “Sister Act,” “We Will Rock You,” “Evita,” “Mamma Mia!” and “Cabaret.” The latter production will be produced with the local company Theater Latte Da as part of the Broadway Re-Imagined series.

“Five Minnesota debuts, including ‘Once,’ the current Tony Award-winner for Best Musical, bring the newest and brightest touring productions to your Twin Cities doorstep,” said Tim Hoch, President/CEO of Hennepin Theatre Trust, in a statement. “From the irresistible music and romance of ‘Once’ to the inventive hilarity of ‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ and the breathtaking all-new production of ‘The Phantom of the Opera,’ join us to experience the unforgettable!’”

The Hennipin Theatre Trust is an independent non-profit organization that owns four theaters in the Twin Cities: Orpheum, State, Pantages and New Century.

Season ticket packages start at $200 and include tickets to seven shows. The optional add-ons to the season tickets are “Wicked,” “Les Mis,” “Mamma Mia!” and “Cabaret.”

The latter will be the first production of 2014, and is scheduled to run January 15-February 9. Here’s how organizers describe the show:

Produced by Theater Latte Da and Hennepin Theatre Trust, Broadway Re-Imagined taps the strengths of both organizations and incredible Twin Cities’ talent to create innovative stagings of the musical theater canon. Classic songs like “Willkommen,” “Maybe This Time,” “Money” and, of course, “Cabaret” take you inside the heart of 1930s Berlin to experience the free-spirited decadence and heartbreaking desire that is “Cabaret!”

The 2013-2014 kicks off July 30 with “Les Mis” and runs through June 23 when “Ghost the Musical” wraps.
