The Lion King Houston | Sarofim Hall

The Lion King Houston | Sarofim Hall

Coming to Houston this summer is the Disney and Broadway smash hit and one of the longest running musicals in the Great White Way, ‘The Lion King’. Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki and even the menacingly ambitious Scar are coming to the Hobby Center for a month-long run at the Sarofim Hall from June 27 to July 23, 2012.

Helmed onstage by Tony Award winner Julie Taymor, ‘The Lion King’ is a marvelous theatrical spectacle of lifelike and life-size creatures and wonders that walk over the African Pridelands and rich and vibrant sceneries and sounds that mimic every color, object, movement, breath, life and soul of the safari, making audiences feel as if they were there, in the middle of every drama and adventure that unfolded from Simba’s birth, to Scar’s treacherous plot to usurp the Pridelands throne from Mufasa and Simba, to Simba’s coming-of-age until his triumphant return as the one true king. With the Academy Award winning theme ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ plus other well-loved songs from the musical such as ‘Hakuna Matata’ and ‘The Circle of Life’ underscoring every emotion and the infectious onstage energy, ‘The Lion King’ is definitely “a landmark event in entertainment” (Newsweek), the return of which to Houston is one of the much anticipated highlights of the Hobby Center’s 2012-2013 Broadway season.

The performance running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes with 1 intermission.
