‘The Commons of Pensacola,’ Starring Sarah Jessica Parker & Blythe Danner, Hits MTC October 22

It seems as though overwhelming demand has led to The Commons of Pensacola extending an additional three weeks. The Manhattan Theatre Club made the announcement that the world premiere play, which is currently in rehearsals at MTC, will have a limited engagement which begins previews on Tuesday, October 22 in advance of a Thursday, November 21 opening at New York City Center.

The production stars Emmy and Tony Award winner Blythe Danner and Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Sarah Jessica Parker. It also features the talents of Zoe Levin, Ali Marsh, Michael Stahl-David, and Nilija Sun. The production marks the reunion of Danner and Parker who previously starred together in MTC’s 1995 hit production Sylvia.

The Commons of Pensacola tells the story of Judith (Danner) who has been stripped of her assets and forced to leave her grandiose New York life after her husband’s Wall Street scam become public. Her daughter Becca (Parker) and Becca’s boyfriend (Stahl-David) pay Judith a visit at her one bedroom condo in Pensacola, FL which calls into question everyone’s motives. The question becomes, how will the past and present circumstances impact how the family chooses to move forward in the future?

The production is written by Amanda Peet and directed by Lynne Meadow. It features a talented creative team which includes Santo Loquasto with scenic design, Tom Broecker with costume design, Jason Lyons with lighting design, Jill BC Du Boff with sound design, and Thomas Schall as the fight director.

The Commons of Pensacola is being presented as part of MTC’s 2013-2014 season which includes others productions such as world premiere productions of The Snow Geese, Casa Valentina, Taking Care of Baby, and Tales From Red Vienna among others.
