Spice Girl’s Musical ‘Viva Forever’ Appears Headed to Broadway

“Viva Forever!,” the new musical featuring songs from the Spice Girls, is eyeing a Broadway run.

The production has been playing at the Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End since November of last year, and officially opened on December 11, 2012. Now producer Judy Craymer wants to bring the musical to Broadway, according to reports.

“Judy is doing all she can to make it sharper and funnier,” a source told Britain’s Daily Mirror. “There will also be a few major set reworkings, giving ‘Viva Forever!’ a fresher feel.”

No official Broadway target dates or other details have been officially announced at this time.

Craymer produces the show in association with the Spice Girls, Simon Fuller and Universal Music, and the production is directed by Paul Garrington. Jennifer Saunders wrote the book for the musical, and Lynne Page is choreographer. Judy Craymer is best known for her work on “Mamma Mia!”

The production opened to generally negative reviews, though its London run has been extended through at least February 2014. Here’s how the show is described on the musical’s official website:

Bringing some much needed spice to the West End, the show charts the journey of a girl and the people around her she loves, as she’s propelled into the superficial world of “Starmaker,” a TV talent show that offers the fame and fortune she thinks she craves. But life in the spotlight isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be, for the contestants, their families or even those who have the deciding votes!

Including the hit songs “Stop,” “Say You’ll Be There,” “2 Become 1” and many more, “Viva Forever!” hits all the high notes for a fabulous feel-good night out. So spice up your life with this exhilarating new musical that celebrates love, friendship and just being who you really, really wanna be…!
