‘Million Dollar Quartet’ Las Vegas Completes Rocker Cast
Complete casting for the upcoming Las Vegas production of “Million Dollar Quartet” has been revealed, and the show will star Martin Kaye, Benjamin D. Hale, Tyler Hunter and Robert Britton Lyons.
The show is set to open February 4 at Harrah’s Las Vegas, and the musical tells the story of a night four of the biggest artists in the world came together in a studio.
“[‘Million Dollar Quartet’] takes place on December 4, 1856, when an extraordinary twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together,” according to press notes. “Sam Phillips, the ‘Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ who was responsible for launching the careers of each superstar, brought the four legendary musicians together at the Sun Records storefront studio in Memphis for the first and only time… [The musical] brings that legendary December night to life with the extraordinary story of secrets, betrayal and once in a lifetime celebration of four friends that is both poignant and funny.”
Kaye will play Jerry Lee Lewis, Hale will portray Johnny Cash, Hunter will play Elvis Presley and Lyons will perform the role of Carl Perkins. Other cast members include Jacob Tolliver, Larry “Cole” Cole, Luke Darnell, Tony Sandrew, Mark Farrett, Josh Jones and Stephanie Mason. Songs in the musical include “Great Balls of Fire,” “Who Do You Love?” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Fever,” “Sixteen Tons” and “Matchbox,” among others.
The musical first premiered in Chicago and came to Broadway in 2010. The production then transferred Off-Broadway and played until June 2011. The Broadway version was nominated for the Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical. Levi Kreis won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his work in the production.
