‘Jersey Boys,’ ‘Blue Man Group’ Hit Broadway Scranton in 2013-14
“Jersey Boys” and “Blue Man Group” will be among the highlights of the 2013-2014 Broadway Scranton season.
The lineup was announced to a live crowd at the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple in Scranton, Pa. recently. “Jersey Boys” Broadway cast members John Michael Dias and Christopher DeAngelis were on hand to reveal the season.
Other shows during the season include a production of “Hello Dolly!” starring Sally Struthers in the title role, as well as “Rock of Ages” and “Rain – A Tribute to the Beatles.”
“I think it’s a big deal for Scranton, for any community, fortunate enough to get shows like ‘Jersey Boys,’ hits on Broadway for the last six or seven years,” said producer Albert Nocciolino, according to WNEP in Scranton.
Dias performed excerpts from two Four Seasons songs featured in the musical during the event, “My Eyes Adored You” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” He also spoke about the widespread appeal of “Jersey Boys” during the announcement event.
“It’s a portal to a lot of people’s childhood,” he said, “and it sort of appeals to everyone.”
“Hello Dolly!” will kick off the season October 11-13, and will be followed by a “Jersey Boys” run from February 4-16. “Rock of Ages” will follow the next month, running March 28-30. “Cirque Dreams Rocks” will run April 11-13, and the season will close out with “An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin,” which will be presented May 9-11.
The other three shows will not be included with season tickets, and include “Blue Man Group” in fall 2013, “Rain” on March 5 and “My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m in Therapy,” which will be presented in spring 2014.
“An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin” will feature the two Tony legends performing songs from various shows throughout their careers.
