Idina Menzel Performs at Austraila’s Sydney Opera House June 26-27
Idina Menzel will perform at the Sydney Opera House along with the Sydney Symphony later this year in Australia.
The actress, best known for originating the role of Elphaba in the Broadway and later in the London version of “Wicked,” made her solo debut at Carnegie Hall in New York just last month on January 13. The two Sydney dates join a previously announced date Down Under, as she will perform at the Festival Theatre in Adelaide, Australia on June 22. No word yet on whether more dates will be announced.
She also has two U.S. concerts scheduled this year, the first at Symphony Hall in Phoenix on June 8, and the second at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh on July 21.
Menzel earned a Tony Award for Leading Actress in a Musical for the role of Elphaba, and she also originated the role of Maureen in the original Broadway production of “Rent.” Her Off Broadway credits include “The Wild Party” and “See What I Wanna See.” She has appeared on film and television in the movie version of “Rent,” “Glee,” “Kissing Jessica Stein,” “Ask the Dusk,” “Rescue Me” and “Enchanted,” among others.
She released her first album, Still I Can’t Be Still in 1998, and has released two studio albums after that, 2004’s Here and 2008’s I Stand. The latter was her major label debut, released on Warner Bros. Records. Last year, she released her first live album, Live: Barefoot at the Symphony.
She also appeared on two volumes of the Glee soundtrack: Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers and Glee: The Music, Volume 7. She sang four songs throughout both those records: “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Poker Face,” “Somewhere” and “Constant Craving.” She appeared on cast recordings for “Rent,” “The Wild Party,” “Wicked,” “See What I Wanna See” and “Chess in Concert.”
