Dallas Welcomes ‘Book of Mormon,’ ‘Porgy and Bess,’ ‘Godspell’ in 2013-14 Broadway Season

Dallas theater fans will be treated to “The Book of Mormon,” “Porgy and Bess” and “Godspell,” among others during the upcoming 2013-2014 Broadway season.

“The Book of Mormon” kicks off the Lexus Broadway Series and runs August 21-September 1 at the AT&T Performing Arts Center (ATTPAC). The limited engagement is almost certain to sell out, and AATPAC director of marketing Dana Cobb says the only way to ensure tickets to the show is by purchasing a season subscription.

“Getting a subscription is the only way to ensure getting a seat for ‘The Book of Mormon,’ she told the Dallas Morning News. “It’s also the only way to be sure of getting the most reasonable price for tickets to any of the shows.”

President and acting CEO of ATTPAC Doug Curtis said in a statement that he thinks this year’s Dallas season meets the needs of all theater lovers in the area.

“Our goal in selecting shows for the Lexus Broadway Series is to bring what is current, relevant and important from Broadway to North Texas and our world-class performing arts center,” he said. “We feel this new season checks everyone of those boxes.”

“Peter and the Starcatcher” will follow “The Book of Mormon” and run September 17-September 29. The story is a prequel to “Peter Pan” and is based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson.

“The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess” is up next and will run December 11-December 22. “Godspell” will then kick off the new calendar year, playing February 18-March 2, 2014. The musical is from Grammy and Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz, who also served as composer for “Wicked.”

Finally, the musical adaptation of the now-classic Disney animated film “Beauty and the Beast” will close out the season, running April 15-27, 2014. The musical retains many songs from the film, including “Be Our Guest.”
