Broadway Kansas City announce 2013-14 season with ‘Wicked,’ ‘War Horse’
“War Horse” and “Wicked” will be among the productions presented in the 2013-2014 Broadway Kansas City season.
The shows will be part of five total shows in the season, all of which will be held either at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts or at the Music Hall in the Kansas City Convention Center. The other three shows for the season are “Sister Act,” “Bring It On: The Musical” and “Rat Pack Show.” Additionally, organizers will offer two special engagements that are not part of the regular season: “Beauty and the Beast” and “American Idiot.”
“Wicked” will begin the season and run October 9-27 at Music Hall. The Kansas City Star reports the musical has been a hit in previous appearances at the venue.
Next up is “Sister Act,” which will run January 21-26, 2014. The musical is adapted from the 1992 movie of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg. Music for the stage adaptation is by Alan Menken, with Glenn Slater providing lyrics. The production also will be presented at Music Hall.
The production at the Kauffman Center is “Bring It On: The Musical,” which will run February 11-16, 2014. Based on the 2000 film “Bring It On,” the musical is a comedy set in the world of competitive cheerleading.
“War Horse” will run April 1-6, 2014 at Music Hall. The production is based on the novel of the same name by Michael Morpurgo, which also inspired Steven Spielberg’s film version.
Finally, “Rat Pack Show” will close out the season May 27-June 1, 2014. The cabaret revue features the songs of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin. Featured tunes are “Luck Be a Lady,” “Mack the Knife” and “That’s Amore.”
Season tickets range from $145 to $410, depending on seat location. Both special engagements must be purchased separately. “Beauty and the Beast” will run December 10-15, and “American Idiot” will play in January with specific dates to be announced later.
