Wicked Tempe | ASU Gammage

Wicked Tempe | ASU Gammage

Returning to Tempe, AZ just in time for fall is the Tony Award winning musical and critically acclaimed back story to the Wizard of Oz, Wicked. This musical is slated for a month and a half run at the ASU Gammage along South Forest Avenue from August 26 to October 4, 2015.

Long before Dorothy had her share of adventures in Munchkinland, there were two would-be witches whose longstanding rivalry and distinct differences make up for “the most complete—and completely satisfying—new musical in a long time” (USA Today). Their road to witchery is bathed with adventures involving mystifying creatures, conflicts, action, and self-discovery. In the end, the blonde, popular and ambitious Galinda emerged as the Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba, whose emerald skin and fiery and opinionated character resulted to her being frequently misunderstood and outcast from society, became the Wicked Witch of the West, a character who gained notoriety when Dorothy hopped off the train from Kansas, stepped into their realm and embarked on her own fantasy and whimsical adventure as chronicled in the Wizard of Oz tale.

Show times for Wicked are at 7:30 PM from Tuesdays to Saturdays and 6:30 PM on Sundays. Matinee performances are at 2 PM on Saturdays and 1 PM on Sundays. The performance running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes with 1 intermission.

“This production emits chills from the opening number, which reveals the scandalous background of Elphaba’s birth, to the final scene where Glinda and Elphaba part with a dramatic farewell.” – Maria Thompson of The State Press
