Wicked Louisville | Kentucky Center

Wicked Louisville | Kentucky Center

The Broadway smash hit and Tony Award winning musical ‘Wicked’ is set to enchant and captivate Louisville for a limited run around the holiday season, from November 18 to December 6, 2015 at the Kentucky Center, as part of its national tour.

If you enjoyed the story of the ‘Wizard of Oz’, then you’ll definitely enjoy and be touched with ‘Wicked’, as it tracks back to the early days of the Wicked Witch of the West and her journey from childhood to adulthood, where her noticeable appearance marked by her emerald skin and outspoken nature made her both unpopular and distinct. USA Today calls the musical “the most complete—and completely satisfying—new musical in a long time”, thanks to vivid imagery and unforgettable tunes such as the contemporary theatre favorite, ‘Defying Gravity’. Take a peek at the lives of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West and her once friend and now rival Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, to better understand and appreciate why Oz and Munchkinland were as such when Dorothy came in the picture several years after. These witches have their own story to tell, and it’s not all that ugly, for it has elements of love, friendship, trust and adventure sprinkled onto it, elements that normal beings are no stranger to. The performance running time is 2 hours and 45 minutes with 1 intermission.

“But the real magic to Wicked is the underlying message it brings. The show is positively phosphorescent, but there is a whole lot more to Wicked than what meets the eye.” – Michelle Rynbrandt of louisville.com

“It is spectacle in the most theatrical sense and must have been what Aristotle envisioned when he listed spectacle as a vital component to a good tragedy.” – Brian Walker of Theatre Louisville
