The hit musical Wicked will celebrate 10 years on Broadway Wednesday, October 30, 2013. This is an accomplishment that has only been achieved by 10 other productions in Broadway history. To mark the special occasion, the show’s creative team and many of the show’s previous cast members will celebrate with a special performance on October 30th. The performance will then be followed by a company party.
Since the show’s inception, it has grossed more than $3.1 billion and has been seen by more than 38 million people worldwide. As of now, there are nine worldwide productions of Wicked in New York, London, Japan, Australia/New Zealand, South Korea, Latin America, a U.K. Tour, and two concurrent North American National Tours. Over the past 10 years, the show has also had sit-down engagements in Chicago, running for 3.5 years, Los Angeles, running for 2 years, and San Francisco, running for 1.5 years.
In addition to the special performance, VerveUMe will release a special Wicked Deluxe Edition CD November 19th. It will feature the 19-track original Broadway cast recording as well as bonus tracks to include “Popular Song” by MIKA featuring Ariana Grande. The special 2-CD set will also feature deluxe packaging to showcase the show’s 10th Anniversary artwork and a bonus booklet with new essays by Stephen Schwartz and Gregory Maguire.
Throughout the entire month of October there will be other promotions and appearances to further celebrate the longevity of the popular show. Some of the major activities and events will include a special display of Wicked costumes, memorabilia, and merchandise October 20 – November 1 at the NBC Experience Store in Rockefeller Plaza, as well as a special initiative for Wicked’s over 1 million Facebook fans and social media followers known as “30 DAYS OF FLIGHT.” It is an opportunity for Wicked to give back to the legions of fans that have helped make the musical a global phenomenon. Each day for the first 30 days of October, one Wicked fan will be chosen and celebrated by members of the Broadway company via video, email, or social media. Plus, a handful will be selected to receive special prizes from the company, including autographed memorabilia and items from the show.
