Wicked Alums Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel Head out on Concert Tours

Former “Wicked” stars Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel have both announced separate concert tours that will keep them on the road throughout North America later this year.

Tony Award winner Chenoweth will kick off her tour on May 9 in Seattle and continue on the road until June 24, when the tour wraps up in her hometown of Broken Arrow, Okla. Other cities she will visit include Los Angeles, Denver, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, Nashville and Atlanta.

Chenoweth said she had never been able to do a tour because she was too busy, so she wants to take advantage of this opportunity.

“I’ve sung all over the place but I’ve never committed to a tour because of my schedule,” she told CBS News. “So I’m finally doing it.”

She also said that she will be performing an eclectic set including songs from her recent album “Some Lessons Learned,” songs from “Wicked,” as well as “Popular.”

“If I don’t do ‘Popular,’ I will go out on a stretcher. I know that,” she told the news agency. “I’ve accepted it, and you know what? I’m thankful for it. I’m glad that I have songs I’m known for… I’ll do a little of everything that I’m known for and also stuff I’m not.”

Menzel’s tour will begin on June 1 in Vancouver, and she will work nearly constantly until July 8 when she performs in Chicago. Additionally, she has a show schedule for August 3 in Washington, D.C. and one on October 29 at Carnegie Hall in New York.

After her stint in “Wicked,” Menzel has had a recurring role on “Glee,” among other work, and will release a live concert CD/DVD on March 5. She told the website JustJared.com that she is looking forward to a new tour.

“I am so thrilled to be going back on tour this summer,” she said. “I am eager to reconnect with my audience, perform my favorite songs and explore some exciting new material.”
