U.K. ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ Tour to Star Maxwell Caulfield

Maxwell Caulfield will star as R.F. Simpson in the upcoming U.K. tour of “Singin’ in the Rain.”

The tour is a production by the Chichester Festival Theatre that just ended a West End run of the show. The tour will kick off at the Manchester Opera House on November 9, with an official opening following on November 13.

Caulfield will star alongside Faye Tozer and Vicky Binns, who will alternate playing the role of Lina Lamont at different tour dates. Others in the touring production include Amy Ellen Richardson as Kathy Selden, Stephane Anelli as Cosmo Brown and James Leece as Don Lockwood.

“I am beyond thrilled to be hitting the road with ‘Singin’ in the Rain,’ he said in a statement. “As a huge fan of the original movie, the chance to bring this story to life on stage is something I couldn’t pass up and it’ll be great visiting some of the beautiful theatres on the tour, some I’ve been to previously, some are going to be a brand new experience for me. Theatre work is a huge passion of mine and having dealt with a few studio bosses in my time too, I relish the opportunity to play RF Simpson in this glorious production.”

Caulfield is best known for his roles in the British shows “Emmerdale,” Casualty” and “Holby City.” Perhaps his best known film work is “Grease 2,” opposite Michelle Pfeiffer. His stage work includes performing Billy Flynn in “Chicago” for both Broadway and West End productions. He’s been on other U.K. national tours for “The Rocky Horror Show” and “An Inspector Calls.”

The production of the musical premiered at the Chichester Festival Theatre in the summer of 2011, and transferred to the Palace Theatre in West End the following year.
