Thomas Sadoski Exits ‘Other Desert Cities’ for HBO Series, Matthew Risch Joins Cast

Actor Thomas Sadoski is leaving the Broadway production of “Other Desert Cities” in January. He is leaving to take part in the HBO series “The Newsroom.” Sadoski will also miss from December 5-25 but during those dates he will be replaced by his understudy Matthew Risch. The play was expected to close on January 8th but looks like it has been extended through most of March. So far there has not been word of a permanent replacement. One would think if Risch does well it is his role to lose.

Matthew Risch has appeared on Broadway in hits like “Chicago,” “Legally Blonde,” and “Pal Joey.” He also appeared in the movie “Sex and the City 2.” Risch is no stranger to the stage and should do well in the role.

“Other Desert Cities” is a play by Jon Robin Baitz that deals with a family’s drama. It is produced by Joe Mantello. Sadoski was nominated for both a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for his role in “Reasons to Be Pretty.”

“The Newsroom” is a creation of Aaron Sorkin. The show about cable news already has a cast starring Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston and Alison Pill. Add Thomas Sadoski and the show has a pretty good cast to get HBO viewers excited.

Hopefully both shows will continue their successes. Maybe Broadway will see Thomas Sadoski return during filming breaks or after the HBO show has its run.
