Original Mary Poppins Ashley Brown Returns to Broadway March 8

Ashley Brown is going to star once again as the title character in Mary Poppins on Broadway starting on March 8. Brown was the original Mary Poppins when the play was running at the New Amsterdam Theatre. She is stepping in for Laura Michelle Kelly until Kelly returns from a movie filming on July 19.

Brown has also appeared on Broadway as a member of the cast of Beauty and the Beast. She has also been a part of a nationwide tour of both Mary Poppins and On the Record, a Disney production. Most recently, Brown had the lead role in Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin, which has been on stage at the La Jolla Playhous. Brown has also produced her own album, entitled, Speak Low.

At this time, the cast of Mary Poppins includes Laird Machkintosh playing the role of George Banks, Gavin Lee playing the role of Bert, Valerie Boyle playing the role of Mrs. Brill, Megan Osterhaus playing the role of Winifred Banks, Andrew Keenan-Bolger playing the role of Roberson Ay, and Ann Arvia playing the role of Bird Woman. The opening date for the musical was on November 16, 2006. It has nabbed seven nominations for Tony Awards, with the “Best Musical” award being one of them.
