It looks like more mommy drama is afoot for Ms. Rachel Berry. Idina Menzel has confirmed that she’s committed to season 3 of ‘Glee’ in a big way. She is slated to appear in up to 12 episodes as Rachel’s biological mother Shelby Corcoran. Deadline has reported that she will be the newest teacher at William McKinley High. So what is the rub? Her pending November concert dates seem to be the casualty of that decision.
On Menzel’s website, she wrote to her devoted fans, “Friends, as many of you know I am extremely excited about returning to Glee, yet it comes with one drawback, which is that due to my filming schedule I will have to cancel a majority of my upcoming November tour dates, which I am so disappointed about. I hope you can understand. I was truly looking forward to seeing all of you and will do my best to make it up to you as soon as I can. Lots of love, Idina.”
Menzel’s first appearance on ‘Glee’ came in the show’s first season and ran five episodes. Fellow ‘Wicked’ alum Kristen Chenoweth has been a ‘Glee’ regular and both have competed for the affections of dimples Mr. Schue. Chenoweth is currently not slated to appear in season 3.
Idina Menzel received a Tony Award, Drama Desk nomination and Theatregoers Choice Award for her role as Elphaba in ‘Wicked’ on Broadway and on London’s West End. She’s collected numerous nominations for her other Broadway offerings – ‘Rent,’ ‘See What I Wanna See’ and Off-Broadway’s ‘The Wild Party.’
