‘Daily Show’ Scribe Takes Comedy ‘An Act of God’ to Broadway

Producer Jeffrey Finn made the announcement that An Act of God will make it to Broadway in 2015. The comedic production is based upon the critically acclaimed book The Last Testament: A Memoir By God which was transcribed by 11 time Emmy Award winner David Javerbaum.

Finn commented, “Closing a deal with God and his entire team of agents, managers and lawyers has been a long process, but we finally got there. I could not be more honored, or physically and spiritually intimidated, to present God on Broadway.” Finn went on to say that he was not certain of whom the actor would be that God would borrow for the show. However, he acknowledged that the Lord’s first choice-Oprah Winfrey- had already passed “despite numerous divine entreaties.”

Javerbaum said in a statement,  “I am deeply disappointed that Jeffrey Finn has decided to produce this show. It will force me to continue my unwanted professional association with God, an abstract entity who has given me nothing but discomfort and agita. It is my desperate hope that we close out of town.”

Apparently, when reached for comment, God released the following statement via His press agent, “Lo, I am thrilled to be making My Broadway debut. I verily hope it leads to more show business opportunities for Me, particularly in Hollywood, into which I have not been allowed up to this point. This play will help clear up the fallacy that I’m old-fashioned and holier-than-thou and instead reveal the true Me: up-to-date and holier-than-you. In short, thou shalt run, not walk, to see An Act Of God.”

It has been confirmed that An Act of God will be a play and not a musical. The book, The Last Testament: A Memoir by God has been described in the following way:  “Over the course of his long and distinguished career, God has literally seen it all. And not just seen. In fact, the multitalented deity has played a pivotal role in many major events, including the Creation of the universe, the entirety of world history, and the co-creation (with his son) of “The Walking Dead”. Sometimes preachy, sometimes holier-than-thou, but always lively, The Last Testament is the ultimate celebrity autobiography.”

Casting and creative team announcements are expected to be released at a later date.
