Chicago San Diego | Civic Theatre

Summer will surely sizzle in San Diego as the Tony Award winning musical ‘Chicago’ will not only relive the hype, the drama, the suspense and all that jazz this musical is known and well-loved for, it will also feature the San Diego debut of former supermodel-turned-critically acclaimed stage actress Christie Brinkley in the lead, reprising her lauded performance as Roxie Hart when the musical stages its week-long run at the Civic Theatre from May 8 to 13, 2012.

A glamorous and fictional satire about the corrupted justice system prevailing in 1920s Chicago amidst the 13-year Prohibition era and the peak of the vaudeville theatrical genre, the musical tells the story of Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, murderesses and rivals who both used the notoriety they gained in the slammer to sensationalize their crimes and heighten their celebrity status, as one gears up for her comeback while the other prepares for her breakout moment. With music and lyrics from the acclaimed tandem of John Kander and Fred Ebb and an adapted book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, ‘Chicago’, with all its razzle and dazzle, validates the famous showbiz quote “bad publicity is still publicity”.

Show times for the San Diego engagement of ‘Chicago’ are at 7 PM on May 8 and 9, 7:30 PM on May 10, 8 PM on May 11 and 12, and 6 PM on May 13. Matinee performances are at 2 PM on May 12 and 1 PM on May 13.
