Broadway Opens in Wake of Hurricane Sandy

Most Broadway shows will offer both matinee and evening performances beginning today after being closed October 28-30 due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

See a complete list of shows that will be open today at the end of this article.

“Most shows will go on as scheduled for both the matinee and evening performances on Wednesday, October 31st,” said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of The Broadway League, in a statement. “For those theatergoers who are staying in hotels and can’t get home, it’s a great time to see a show. As always, the safety and security of theatergoers and employees is everyone’s primary concern, so for those who can’t get in to the city as a result of the suspension of public transportation by government authorities or additional safety precautions that were implemented, they should contact their point of purchase for questions about exchange or refund policies.”

As of this writing (Wednesday, October 31) all New York subway lines remain closed, “as clean up and water remediation efforts continue, especially in underwater tunnels linking Brooklyn and Manhattan that were flooded during the storm,” according to the official website of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Bus service in the city, however, will operate on a “fare-free basis.”

The MTA’s website also reports that, “It is still too early to say how long it will take to restore the system to full service. This will be an exhaustive, time-consuming process with one goal: to restore safe and efficient service to 8.5 million daily MTA customers.”

The Broadway League also offered the following information concerning refunds and exchanges:

“If tickets were purchased via Telecharge or Ticketmaster via phone or online your credit card will be refunded automatically within 7-10 business days. For any issues, please contact the customer service information included with your tickets.”
