Andy Karl, Margo Seibert Take Leads in Broadway’s ‘Rocky The Musical’

The cast has been unveiled by Stage Entertainment, announcing Andy Karl and Margo Seibert will play the title roles of Rocky Balboa and Adrian in the Broadway production of Rocky The Musical.

Karl has previously graced the stage with his work in The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Jersey Boys. Meanwhile, Seibert will be making her Broadway debut as Adrian in the production.

The show has a highly talented creative team. It is directed by Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers. It features general choreography from Kelly Devine and boxing choreography from 2012 Tony Award nominee Steven Hoggett. The show also features a musical score by Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Steven Flaherty. Plus, it has a book by Tony Award winner Thomas Meehan. It is produced by none other than original Rocky star and creator Sylvester Stallone alongside Stage Entertainment.

Rocky The Musical is based upon the Academy Award winning film entitled Rocky. It tells the  story of a struggling boxer in Philadelphia (Rocky Balboa) who gets the chance of a lifetime to fight opposite heavyweight champion Apollo Creed. The show traces his journey of preparation for the Herculean task  as well as a budding romance between himself and Adrian.

Stallone shared in a statement, “I couldn’t be more proud or more excited about this production and how my original story of Rocky Balboa has been brought to spectacular life onstage. The story of Rocky was very much like my life at the time – starting out with nothing, having to fight for roles and recognition. So I put those feelings into the body of a boxer and I had no idea there were so many millions of people that felt the same way. Alex Timbers and the entire creative team have not only honored that original impulse, but have made his story as exciting, heart-breaking, and inspiring as it was when Rocky first went the distance on screen.”

Preview performances will begin February 11, 2014 at the Winter Garden Theatre. The show is set to open March 13, 2014.
