‘The Normal Heart’ National Tour to Launch in Washington DC June 2012
Larry Kramer’s Tony Award winning play ‘The Normal Heart’, about a gay activist’s struggles during the stigmatizing AIDS outbreak in 1980s New York City, will be going on its first national tour fresh from its successful Broadway revival last season. The tour kicks off with a two-month run at Arena Stage in Washington, DC from June 8 to July 29, 2012. The play will fill in for ‘Like Water for Chocolate’, which fell through as it was plagued with constant scheduling and creative team issues.
George C. Wolfe, who helmed the play’s Great White Way revival, will also helm the play’s forthcoming DC run. Joining him in the production are costume designer Martin Pakledinaz, set designer David Rockwell, sound and music designer David Van Tieghem, lighting designer David Weiner and projection designers Batwin & Robin. Casting information and other tour dates will be out in the coming days.
Those who have bought tickets to ‘Like Water for Chocolate’ can have these replaced with passes to ‘The Normal Heart’. Meanwhile, those who have purchased tickets to ‘Mary T. & Lizzy K.’, Tazewell Thompson’s new play which is temporarily scrapped from the Arena Stage’s season line-up due to insufficient capital, can get a refund by heading straight to the theater’s sales office or by calling 202-488-3300.
