‘War Horse’ to Embark on UK Tour in 2013
The critically acclaimed play ‘War Horse’ will be embarking on a tour all across the UK starting in 2013. The next two years will prove to be hectic and fruitful for the hit stage adaptation of the Michael Morpungo children’s novel. Apart from the tour, the play will also be staged in Australia, Canada, Japan (in Nihongo), South Africa and Europe (in various languages).
The UK tour is slated to kick off in fall 2013, with the complete itinerary to be announced later. The tour will run in conjunction with the play’s ongoing West End staging. ‘War Horse’ is also currently running in Broadway via the Vivian Beaumont Theatre.
After opening at the NT Olivier in fall 2007 to rave reviews, ‘War Horse’ made its West End premiere in 2008 at the New London Theatre. It earned several nods and bagged two Olivier Awards in the same year. Three years later, it premiered in the Great White Way and won multiple Tony, Drama Desk and Drama League Awards including Best Play honors from the aforementioned award giving bodies.
In 2012, a Steven Spielberg film adaptation of the play will hit theaters. The cast will include David Thewlis, Jeremy Irvine, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Emily Watson and Peter Mullan.
‘War Horse’ is the story of Albert and his horse Joey, who got separated from his young master after he was sold to the cavalry to be used by French soldiers during the First World War. Albert embarks on a deathly journey to save his horse and take him home. With life-like and life-size characters and puppets popping vividly onstage, ‘War Horse’ wows and moves audiences with its majestic and grand visuals and its touching and heartwarming story.
