‘The Addams Family’ Cuts Chicago Return to One Week

Recession has apparently spared no one, or no industry, for that matter. Due to weak ticket demands, the Chicago engagement of the Broadway comedy ‘The Addams Family’ has been shortened to play only for a week at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, two weeks short of its original schedule. The show is now slated to run from Dec. 27 to January 1, 2012 only.

Insiders cite not only the dismal economy for the failing audience interest in the musical, but also the show’s several revisions which still failed to cultivate the curiosity of those who have seen its previous productions. The musical had sold-out runs in the Windy City two years ago, but that feat might be hard for the show to match or topple this year. Even its Broadway production is slated to close on December 31 for the same reasons.

Other shows have also been affected by the recession. The re-launch of ‘Funny Girl’ doesn’t get to have the last laugh as it won’t see the light of the stage any time soon due to lack of capital, which is estimated at $12 million.
