Cheyenne Jackson, Alexandra Silber Team with San Francisco Symphony for ‘West Side Story’
Cheyenne Jackson and Alexandra Silber will star in “West Side Story in Concert” with the San Francisco Symphony this summer.
The shows will be presented June 27-July 2 at Davies Symphony Hall in the California city.
Jackson and Silber will star as Tony and Maria, respectively. Additionally, the cast will feature Justin Keyes as Action, Kevin Vortman as Riff and Jessica Vosk as Anita.
Here’s how the San Francisco Symphony describes the production:
In a partnership for the ages, two Broadway legends—Bernstein and Sondheim—took Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet from Verona in the 1500s to New York’s Upper West Side in the 1950s, replacing the Montagues and the Capulets with American and Puerto Rican street gangs. Their unforgettable work, with tunes universally loved, comes alive in a dynamic concert version, the first time an orchestra has performed the complete musical in a concert performance.
Michael Tilson Thomas will conduct the orchestra. He has been Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony since September 1995, and began working with the Orchestra initially back in 1974.
Jackson has a varied career of stage, movie and television roles. He has appeared on Broadway in “The Performers” and off-Broadway in “Damn Yankees.” His movie credits include “United 93,” “The Green” and “Price Check,” among others. He also has appeared on TV, most notably in “Glee” and “30 Rock,” and also has made appearances on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Ugly Betty” and “Life on Mars.” He will appear in the upcoming “The Onion News Empire” along with Jeffrey Tambor.
Sibler has appeared on Broadway in “Master Class” and in West End productions of “The Woman in White,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Carousel.” She portrayed Julie Jordan in the latter production. She also has appeared in the feature film “1408,” the Stephen King film starring John Cusack.
