‘Nice Work If You Can Get It’ Set for 2013 Broadway Tour

Just a few days after receiving a slew of Tony Award nominations, it has been announced that the Broadway musical “Nice Work if You Can Get It” musical will undertake a national tour next year.

The Broadway musical stars Matthew Broderick and Kelli O’Hara, and recently received 10 Tony nominations, including one for Best Musical. Producers announced yesterday that the production would embark on a national tour beginning next fall. No dates or cities have yet been announced for the tour.

The musical features a new comedy set to George and Ira Gershwin songs. The book was written by Joe DiPietro, who is known for his work on “Memphis.” The production is directed by Kathleen Marshall, known for “Anything Goes” and “Wonderful Town.” Tour direction will be handled by The Booking Group, which is currently working with the touring versions of “The Book of Mormon,” “Mamma Mia!” and “Anything Goes.” The group also represented the original hit tours of “Rent” and “The Producers.”

“Nice Work if You Can Get It” began previews at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway March 29 and officially opened April 24. The musical is set during prohibition times and tells the story of a wealthy womanizer (Broderick) who meets his match when he meets the tough Billie Bendix (O’Hara).

In all, the musical features over 15 classic songs. Among the most recognizable include “But Not for Me,” “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” “I’ve Got a Crush on You” and “Someone to watch Over Me.”

In addition to Broderick and O’Hara, the current version of the musical also features Estelle Parsons, Judy Kaye and Michael McGrath. The Broadway production also features scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Martin Pakledinaz, lighting design by Peter Kaczorowski, sound design by Brian Ronan and orchestrations by Bill Elliot.
