‘Book of Mormon,’ ‘Wicked’ Light Up Broadway San Antonio 2013-14 Season
“The Book of Mormon” and “Wicked” will highlight the 2013-2014 San Antonio Broadway season.
The upcoming season also will feature “Peter and the Star Catcher,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Ghost: The Musical,” “Evita” and “Sister Act.” “The Book of Mormon” will kick things off September 17-19, and then “Wicked” will play March 12-30, 2014. All shows will be held at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio.
Those interested in purchasing season tickets can purchase packages starting at $161, though it should be noted that “Wicked” is not included in the package and must be purchased separately. Packages range up to $539 for weekend shows as part of the Patron Club, which includes premium seating and drink tickets.
Following “The Book of Mormon,” “Peter and the Starcatcher” will run October 22-27. The popular musical is a prequel to the Peter Pan story, and is based on a book written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson.
Appropriately, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” will run just after the Christmas holiday, December 26-29. The show has typically toured around the U.S. during the holiday season for the past few years, following the show’s debut on Broadway in late 2006.
“Ghost: The Musical” opened on Broadway in the spring of last year, and ran until August 2012. The original production premiered in Manchester, England and ran in the West End from 2011-2012. The musical is based on the 1990 film Ghost starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. The touring version will be the first San Antonio production of the new year and run January 21-26.
A Broadway revival of “Evita” starring Ricky Martin, Elena Roger and Michael Cerveris just closed late last month after opening in spring 2012. It will play April 29-May 4, 2014 in San Antonio, following the production of “Wicked.”
Finally, “Sister Act,” based on the 1992 movie of the same name, will close out the season, running June 24-29, 2014.
