Gloria Estefan Working on Autobiographical Musical for Broadway

Gloria Estefan has teamed up with the Nederlander Organization to bring an autobiographical musical based on her life to Broadway.

Estefan announced the news yesterday, February 5, along with her husband Emilio Estefan in a statement.

“We are very excited to partner with the Nederlander Organization and [executive producer] Bernie Yuman to, after almost a decade of planning and developing, bring our music and life story to Broadway,” said the Estefans in the release. “We are very excited to share this story, which is based on hope, determination and the belief that with hard work and passion, our dreams can become our reality.

“Our music has been a true reflection of who we are, where we came from and the journey that has brought us to where we are today. Our cultural roots, our life-defining challenges and the rewards that come with believing in yourself and striving for that which you believe in wholeheartedly, will be the foundation for this theatrical production. Sharing our life story through music will give us a new opportunity to honor our roots and, hopefully, to be able to inspire generations to come.”

Producers said that the musical will cover Estefan’s life from her journey from Cuba to becoming a Grammy-winning superstar. James L. Nederlander, president of the Nederlander Organization, also expressed his excitement in a statement.

“I am thrilled to collaborate with Gloria and Emilio to see their amazing story come to fruition on the Broadway stage,” he said. “The Estefans’ journey of success, led by raw talent and passion, is captivating as it drove them from relative obscurity to global sensations.”

Throughout her career, Estefan has sold more than 100 million albums around the world and has won seven Grammy Awards. Emilio Estefan received a Latin Grammy for Producer of the Year in 2000. He has helped shaped the career of his wife, as well as Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin and Shakira, among others.
