2013-14 Broadway Houston Season Highlighted by Book of Mormon, Chicago, American Idiot

“The Book of Mormon,” “Chicago” and “American Idiot” highlight the 2013-2014 Gexa Energy Broadway Season at the Hobby Center in Houston.

In addition, the extensive schedule includes “Peter and the Starcatcher,” “Ghost the Musical” and “War Horse.”

“Our new season features the best of Broadway today,” said Fran Macferran, president of the Hobby Center Foundation, in a statement. “Collectively, these shows have won 25 Tony Awards, not to mention an enormous amount of praise from both critics and audiences alike.”

“The Book of Mormon” will kick off the season, playing September 3-15, 2013 at the Hobby Center. A month later “Peter and the Starcatcher” will play October 15-20. The hit musical is the prequel to Peter Pan, based on a novel by humorist Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson.

“Chicago” will then hit the stage November 12-17, followed by “Ghost the Musical” as the first production of the new year, with an engagement scheduled for February 18-23, 2014. The production is based on the 1990 film “Ghost” staring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. The musical features an original score from Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, and songwriter and producer Glen Ballard, perhaps best known for his work with Alanis Morissette and Dave Matthews Band.

Up next is “American Idiot,” from March 21-23, 2014. The musical is based on the Green Day album of the same name, and features songs from that record including “Wake Me Up When September Ends, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns” and “Holiday.”

Finally, “War Horse” will close out the season May 27-June 1, 2014.

Season tickets are on sale now and start at $154, though “American Idiot” is a “special subscriber option” and must be added to a season ticket purchase.
