Broadway Atlanta Announces 2013-14 Season with Book of Mormon, Lion King, once

The 2013-2014 season of Broadway in Atlanta will feature “The Book of Mormon,” “The Lion King” and “Once,” among others.

“Ghost the Musical” will kick things off with a November 5-10 engagement at the Fox Theatre, where all the musicals will be staged throughout the season.

“This is undeniably one of the most anticipated seasons in recent years,” said Russ Belin, vice president of Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta, in a statement. “We’re thrilled to continue offering such a strong line-up for our patrons, and the 2013-2014 season is sure to exceed expectations. This series is packed with a mix of Tony Award-winning shows and some of the most recognized musicals in recent years. Atlanta will truly have the opportunity to get plugged in to the best of Broadway.”

“The Book of Mormon” will follow “Ghost,” and will play from January 28-February 9, 2014 at the Fabulous Fox. The musical seemed to take the 2011 Tony Awards hostage as they gathered up most of the awards, and was named by the New York Times as “the best musical of this century.” It is written by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with Robert Lopez, also known for his work on “Avenue Q.”

About a month after “The Book of Mormon” closes, “Once” will debut, playing March 4-9, 2014. The musical is based on the 2006 film of the same name that starred Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova and tells the story of a Dublin street musician and his musical and personal relationship with a singer he meets. “Once” won the best musical Tony in 2012, and features actors that also play their own instruments during the musical.

Finally, “The Lion King” will close out the series, returning to Atlanta for the first time in six years on April 10-17, 2014. The now classic Broadway production of the musical is now the fifth longest-running show in Broadway history.
