‘Glengarry Glen Ross,’ ‘Golden Boy’ Set to Close on Broadway January 20

“Golden Boy” and “Glengarry Glen Ross” will both end their respective current Broadway runs after final shows this Sunday, January 20.

“Glengarry Glen Ross” will have played 92 performances at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre when it closes. The revival, which stars Al Pacino, opened on December 8, 2012 following previews that began October 19. Other cast members include Tony nominees David Harbour (Edward Albee’s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf”), Bobby Cannavale (“The Motherf***er with the Hat”), and Jeremy Shamos (“Clybourne Park”). Emmy Award winner Richard Schiff (“The West Wing”) also appears along with John C. McGinley (“Scrubs) and Murphy Guyer.

Daniel Sullivan directs the production, which is billed like this:

The stakes are high at a fly by night Chicago real estate office: 1st prize – a new Cadillac, 2nd prize – a set of steak knives, 3rd prize – you’re fired! “Glengarry Glen Ross” slices to the core of the American dream and exposes the depths people will go to stay on top of the game. [Writer] Mamet himself worked in a real estate office in Chicago in 1969 setting up appoints for salesmen, and the play is influenced by the cutthroat politics he encountered.

“Golden Boy” is the revival of a 1937 Clifford Odets’ drama centered around a young musician named Joe Bonaparte.

“‘Golden Boy’ is the story of Joe Bonaparte, a young, gifted violinist who is torn between pursing a career in music and earning big money as a prize fighter.”

The show marks the 75th anniversary of the play and is staged at the Belasco Theatre. Seth Numrich plays the lead role of Bonaparte, and he has previously appeared on Broadway in “War Horse” and “The Merchant of Venice.”

“I gotta say how unbelievably amazing our company for ‘Golden Boy’ has been,” he told Theatermania.com. “Everyone onstage and off has been a joy to work with and I’ll miss them all.”

“Peter and the Starcatcher” also will close on January 20.
