Jessica Chastain Already Plotting Broadway Return with ‘Miss Julie’?
Will Jessica Chastain’s next project be a starring turn in “Miss Julie”? The Boston Herald thinks so.
The star recently chatted with a reporter from the newspaper about her up coming film, “Mama”, and ended the interview by asking, “What’s next?”
“There’s something, it hasn’t been announced but it’s pretty obscure,” Chastain replied. “Like in typical Chastain fashion, I mean not a lot of people will see this, but I have a very – it might be a Strindberg type thing, but we’ll see.”
The reporter then asked if it would be an adaptation of “Miss Julie,” and Chastain made a face that the reporter seemed to think implied, “you guessed it.”
Certainly not solid evidence, but it sounds like it could happen. However, Chastain did not elaborate on her quote, so it is unclear if she is referring to a film or stage adaptation.
Chastain is certainly busy lately. She was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe award for her most recent movie, “Zero Dark Thirty,” and she currently stars on Broadway in “The Heiress,” as well. “Mama” is a Guillermo Del Toro horror film that is out in theaters today, January 18.
This won’t be Chastain’s first award season appearances, as she also was nominated for an Oscar for “The Help.” Other film and television credits for the actress include, “The Tree of Life,” “The Debt,” “Take Shelter,” “Tar,” “Wilde Salome” and “Lawless.”
“Miss Julie” was written in the late 19th Century by August Strindberg and is set in Sweden in 1874. The titular Miss Julie becomes involved in something of a love triangle with Jean and his fiancée Christine, a servant and cook. The play was first produced on Broadway in 1913 at the 48th Street Theatre. A sequel to the play, “After Miss Julie,” was staged by the Roundabout Theatre company in 2009 and set in 1945.
