Joey Calveri Takes Over for Jeremy Woodard as Stacee Jaxx in Broadway’s ‘Rock of Ages’
Joey Calveri will take over the role of rock star Stacee Jaxx in Broadway’s “Rock of Ages” on December 17.
Calveri currently plays the ensemble role of Joey Primo in the production, and that role will be filled on the same day by Andrew Call, who is perhaps best known for his work in “American Idiot.” Primo was originated by Jeremy Woodard both Off- and on Broadway, and he will play his final production of the role December 16.
“Rock of Ages” plays at the Helen Hayes Theatre.
Calveri has been with the production since September 26, 2011, both as the ensemble of Primo and as the understudy of Stacee Jaxx. He also appeared on Broadway in “Wonderland,” in the national tour of “Saturday Night Fever” and the Las Vegas production of “We Will Rock You.”
Other cast members currently appearing in the Broadway production are Ashley Spencer, Genson Blimline, Adam Dannheisser, Cody Scott Lancaster, Michele Mais, Josephine Ross Roberts and Paul Schoeffler.
Here’s how the official “Rock of Ages” website describes the musical:
Set in LA’s infamous Sunset Strip in 1987, “Rock of Ages” tells the story of Drew, a boy from South Detroit, and Sherrie, a small-town girl, both in LA to chase their dreams of making it big and falling in love. “Rock of Ages” takes you back to the times of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair!
Songs featured in the musical include “I Wanna Know What Love Is,” “Here I Go Again,” “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and “Don’t Stop Believin’,” among many others.
A film adaptation of the musical was released in June of this year, and had an all-star ensemble cast including Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston and Malin Akerman, among others.
