Sierra Boggess ‘Phantom of the Opera’ Run Set for January 21 Through March 2

Last month it was announced that Sierra Boggess will join the Broadway production of “The Phantom of the Opera” to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary, and now the dates of her run have been announced.

Boggess will take over the role of Christine Daae on January 21, 2013, and will remain with the production through March 2. During that time, Boggess will perform every Tuesday through Saturday evening, as well as the Saturday matinee. Alternate Samantha Hill will perform on Monday evenings and for the Wednesday matinee.

Other performers that make up the current cast of the production include Hugh Panaro, Trista Moldovan, Kyle Barisich, Aaron Galligan-Stierle, Kevin Ligon, Michele McConnell and Cristin J. Hubbard.

Boggess originated the role of Christine in “Love Never Dies,” the Andrew Lloyd Webber sequel to “The Phantom of the Opera.” She also performed the role for the 25th anniversary of the London production last year. A special staging at the Royal Albert Hall helped mark the occasion.

The official anniversary of the Broadway version will be celebrated by a Special Gala Performance that will be held on January 26, which is exactly 25 years to the day after the production premiered on the Great White Way. Thus far, producers have not been saying much about what the evening will entail, though it will begin with an early 6:30 p.m. performance.

“The Phantom of the Opera” celebrated its 10,000th performance on Broadway earlier this year, making it the first Broadway show to ever reach that milestone. The year the show premiered, it won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical, the latter for Harold Prince.

A new U.K. tour of “Love Never Dies” has been announced for 2013, as well. Despite negative reviews of the show, Webber has reworked it based on the more successful Australian version.
