‘Wicked’ Touring Cast Stage ‘Wicked Rocky Horror Show’ in Las Vegas
The North American tour of “Wicked” is currently in Las Vegas for a five-week run, but the cast will also be doing some side work while in Sin City.
The performers will stage what they are calling “The Wicked Rocky Horror Show,” in which they will perform the Richard O’Brien cult classic “The Rocky Horror Show,” later this month for charity.
The production will be staged at the Tropicana Showroom on Monday, September 24, and is just one of many benefit shows the National Touring Company of Wicked has performed throughout the country since it hit the road seven years ago. During those years, the organization has raised over $2 million in donations for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS as well as local AIDS organizations. “The Wicked Rocky Horror Show” will benefit Las Vegas’ Golden Rainbow.
The five-week run of “Wicked” just began shows at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas at the end of last month, and is scheduled to run through October 7. In addition to “The Rocky Horror” performance, charity money also will be raised by live and silent auctions held at the Smith Center. Prizes include a chance to join the company backstage, as well as a walk-on role in the production.
“The Wicked Rocky Horror Show” will feature current “Wicked” cast members Patti Murin, Nicole Parker and Justin Brill. Other members of the ensemble, band and touring staff also will join the benefit. Company member Timothy A. Fitz-Gerald will direct the production, and it will be choreographed by Napolean W. Gladney and Shanna VanDerwerker. Andrew Graham will provide musical direction.
After the Las Vegas stint, “Wicked” is scheduled to stay on the road at least through September 2013. The next cities on the agenda are Kitchener, Ontario; Louisville, Ky.; Baltimore, Md.; Seattle; Schenectady, N.Y. and Honolulu.
