Ta’Rea Campbell, Hollis Resnik Lead Cast for ‘Sister Act’ Tour
Ta’Rea Campbell and Hollis Resnik are among the stars headlining the upcoming U.S. national tour of “Sister Act” later this year.
Campbell will play the role of Deloris Van Cartier, made famous by Whoopi Goldberg in the original 1992 film of the same title. Resnik will portray Mother Superior. Goldberg produces the show along with Stage Entertainment and Troika Entertainment.
Additionally, the traveling version of the prodution will be joined by actor Kinglsey Leggs, who reprises the role of Curtis Jackson that he played in the original Broadway production. Lael Van Keuren, who also appeared in the Broadway version, will reprise her role of Mary Robert. Other actors in the fold include Richard Pruitt, Melvin Abston, Trisha Jeffrey, Dashaun Young and Blair Goldberg.
“To hear people laugh and cheer the way they do at ‘Sister Act’ – a show people think they know but are pleasantly surprised to discover is not what they were expecting – is a magical experience for a producer,” Goldberg said in a statement about the touring production. “Happily, audiences across the country will be able to get in on the fun this fall when Deloris and her fabulous sisters start spreading the love nationwide.”
Bill Taylor, U.S. CEO of Stage Entertainment, also expressed his excitement about the show.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the creative team and cast members that have made ‘Sister Act’ such a critically acclaimed and crowd-pleasing success on Broadway,” he said in the release. “Our New York audiences have bee absolutely amazing and I look forward to this fall’s tour and the next chapter in ‘Sister Act’s’ wonderfully successful life.”
The Broadway production was nominated for five Tony Awards in 2011, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. The book is by Douglas Carter Beane and Cheri and Bill Steinkellner. Alan Menken teamed up with Glenn Slater to write the score.
