Chazz Palminteri Writes, Stars in ‘Human’ Aiming for Broadway in 2013

Chazz Palminteri, actor and playwright, may be heading back to Broadway next year with his new production, “Human.”

The New York Post reports that a source describes the new play as “a morality tale in the Wall Street era in which a chance encounter between two men in Central Park before dawn leads to the unraveling of lives, guns, mayhem, colorful language and goodfellas.” Though no official announcements has been made, the paper also reports that some big names have signed on for the production.

“I wrote another play for Broadway called “Human” that will be coming to Broadway in probably about a year,” Palminteri said. “I play five characters. I wrote it for myself as a play, because I wanted to do Broadway again. And so then I wrote the script for the film version, and we’ll be working on that too.”

Palminteri will himself play a Wall Street banker, and will be joined at an upcoming reading by Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino, Tony-nominee Jeremy Shamos and Australian singer Sophie Monk. The production will be directed by Jerry Zaks, who also directed “A Bronx Tale,” Palminteri’s Broadway debut – a one-man show. That show premiered Off Broadway in 1989 and had a limited Broadway run in 2007.

The initial reading is reported to be an invitation-only reading during the first week of September. The producers of the show are the father-and-son team of Scott and Brian Zeilinger.

As an actor, Palminteri has appeared in more than 50 movies, include “The Usual Suspects,” “Mulholland Falls,” “Analyze This,” “Hurly Burly” and “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints.” He also received an Academy Award nomination for his work in Woody Allen’s “Bullets Over Broadway.” On television, he has appeared in USA’s “Kojak,” TNT’s “Boss of Bosses” and the HBO film “Excellent Cadavers.”
