Alan Rickman Returns to Broadway in ‘Seminar’

Alan Rickman, the British actor best known for his appearances in the Harry Potter films as professor Severus Snape, is making his return to Broadway.

This fall the film and stage star will be starring in the “Seminar” world premiere, the new play by Theresa Rebeck, the Pulitzer-nominated playwright.

The former member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in this new production will be portraying a famous writer who puts a private seminar on for four aspiring writers. With all of the pupils competing for his attention, things start to spin out of control.

Rickman, who was nominated for a Tony Award for his work in the 1987 “Les Liaisons dangereuses” and won an award in 2002 for a production of “Private Lives” by Noel Coward, recently appeared in a production of “John Gabriel Borkman” by Henrik Ibsen from Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rickman’s Harry Potter colleague, is also earning rave reviews on Broadway for his work with the “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” musical revival.

The opening night date for “Seminar” hasn’t been announced yet by the producers. The production will be directed by Sam Golden. It will be his Broadway debut. The play is scheduled to open at one of the Shubert Organization theaters in Manhattan.
