Off-Broadway’s ‘Buyer & Cellar’ Starts National Tour in Chicago
The critically acclaimed award winning comedy, Buyer & Cellar, just opened at Chicago’s Broadway Playhouse on Saturday, May 10 for a limited engagement run through Sunday, June 14. This will mark the start of the production’s national tour which will cover numerous cities across the U.S.
Following the close of the show at Chicago’s Broadway Playhouse, it will move to Washington, D.C. to play at the Harman Center for the Arts Friday, June 20, 2014 with a run through Sunday, June 29, 2014. Buyer & Cellar will then move to Los Angeles’ Mark Taper Forum for a six week run from Wednesday, July 9, 2014 through Sunday, August 17, 2014. A San Francisco engagement at the SHN Curran Theatre from Tuesday, August 19, 2014 through Sunday, August 31, 2014 will then follow. Buyer & Cellar will continue to tour other cities through December 2014 including a four week engagement at Toronto’s Panasonic Theatre from Wednesday, November 12, 2014 through Thursday, November 3o, 2014.
Buyer & Cellar is the story of a fictional Los Angeles actor who takes on a job working in the basement shopping arcade of Barbra Streisand’s Malibu estate. It is written by Stephen Brackett and Jonathan Tolins and produced by Darren Bagert, Daryl Roth, Dan Shaheen, and Ted Snowden. The show won the Drama Desk Award, the Lucille Lortel Award, and Actors’ Equity Foundation’s Clarence Derwent Award.
The production first premiered in April 2013 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater where it played a sold-out extended run before moving t New York’s barrow Street Theatre. Buyer & Cellar, which currently stars Christopher J Hanke, is now one of the longest running Off-Broadway shows.
