Miley Cyrus Rumors of Tinkerbell in ‘Peter Pan’ Prove Unfounded
The rumors that Miley Cyrus will play Tinkerbell in NBC’s Peter Pan are just that, rumors. Pop star Miley Cyrus responded to the speculation that she would play the magical fairy in the TV musical broadcast scheduled to air December 4, 2014 by Tweeting, “I would rather choke on my own tongue”, along with a picture of her in a magazine that claimed she would “get better reviews than Carrie Underwood” did in The Sound of Music.
Currently, Cyrus is making waves and causing a stir on her BANGERZ tour. No information regarding who Tinkerbell will actually be has been released at this time.
NBC’s Peter Pan is based on J.M. Barrie’s 1904 play and his own novel adaptation. The production features a score by Morris “Moose” Charlap and Jule Styne with lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green. The live TV musical will feature song classics “I’m Flying”, “I’ve Gotta Crow”, “I Won’t Grow Up”, and “Never Never Land”. Plus there will be an accompanying book filled with the magic and adventure of the story.
The original production, which opened on Broadway on October 20, 1954 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York, was directed and staged by Jerome Robbins. It starred Mary Martin as Peter and Cyril Ritchard as Captain Hook. Both actors won Tony Awards for their performance. The show closed on Broadway in 1955 which led to a live broadcast that same year on NBC. That event attracted 65 million viewers. The show was also broadcast live in 1956 and 1960 to large ratings each time. Since then, the show has had several onstage revivals.
