‘Bronx Bombers’ Strike Out on Broadway

‘Bronx Bombers’ Strike Out on Broadway

It looks as though Bronx Bombers has reached its third strike because it is out of here. Producers made the announcement that the production would play its final performance March 2. The production’s close marks less than a one month stay at Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre.

The play only recouped a quarter of its potential box office take of $733,260 last week.

Bronx Bombers is a new American play from the team behind Broadway’s Lombardi that follows beloved icon Yogi Berra and his wife Carmen through a century of the team’s trials and triumphs, bringing generations of Yankee greats together on one stage. As it celebrates and explores the timeless legacy of baseball’s most iconic team, Bronx Bombers takes a fascinating look at how and why the Yankees have remained so undeniably great… and so powerfully inspirational,” as the play is billed.

The production starred husband and wife pair Emmy nominee Peter Scolari and Tracy Shayne will play the roles of Yogi and Carmen Berra, respectively.

Bronx Bombers was the third sports-related play to make it to Broadway from production team Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo.  It followed Lombardi about the legendary Vince Lombardi and Magic/Bird about greats Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Larry Bird.
